Are We All Going to Put the "N" Word on Our Tee-Shirts Now?

It's official. Respect for women is over. Hundreds of years of fighting for equal rights and equal respect, lost in a just a few days.

And those who we expected to protect our freedom have sold us into slavery.

If you actually believe in the inherent worth of all human beings, you are worthless yourself.

If you actually believe in freedom of a woman to chose, you must be ridiculed for making a choice.

If you actually believe in the freedom of religion, you must be damned for all eternity in the most vile manner possible.

If you actually believe in the dignity of all women, you must be denied all dignity.

If you are a woman today, any woman, you are nothing more that an object. You are a possession. You are a sexual outlet. You are to be used and then discarded. You are scum. You are nothing.

I have proof. But I will provide no images. I will provide no copy. I will merely point you to this link: Obama Supporters T-Shirts

And this link: Obama's Supporter's Vile T-Shirt Prominently Displayed on Barack Obama's Own Website

I've already signalled my support for John McCain for President. I can hardly threaten Barack Obama. He is hardly afraid of losing my vote. But if he doesn't specifically condemn what his supporters are doing (exactly as John McCain has done several times over the last few days), I will certainly lose all respect for him. Now and forever.

This is not an option. If the man cannot condemn this debasement of all women, he does not deserve to be President. It is this serious.

A Drive By Posting.... I'm going to leave it, even with the non-link to a worthless video... because this is generally my "free speech" oriented policy.

But I prefer comments directly related to the post. Readers can feel free to ignore the above.

Yes, you can have a knee jerk reaction to the Tee-shirt. You can argue its not anti-women its anti-Palin.

I wonder at the deeper context, remember the golden rule? Remember Aretha Franklin? For a popular culture that is so against 'Dissing', we tend to Diss way too much.

John Byrne came up with the Madonna Syndrome: "Having set out to be "shocking", being compelled to keep upping the ante in order to remain "shocking." (11/02/04)

When Carson was the only game in town late night, his political jokes were cutting yet classy. When you have letterman and leno, you can pretty much throw classy out the window.

How do you get face time? Wallow in the gutter. Quantity seems to trump quality as well. Forget clever. Maybe that takes more talent then 1000 channels and internet video requires.

And yet when something quality comes along we all rush to it, cling to it and buy the printed comforter so our kids can sleep upon it, as if ossmossis actually exists.

So then we have come to expect the bar to be low. What to do? When faced with the unsurmountable people of faith often look to the Bible. In this case Matthew 7 versus 1 thru 6

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Yes, lee, exactly. I've always agreed with that.

Actually, those words parallel the original concept of jihad: An individual's striving for spiritual self-perfection, not the rabid fundamentalists' belief based on the Saudi interpretation of the Qu'ran or those of fundamentalist Christians based on the Bible.

If we are going to criticize McCon for using such terminology towards his wife, Obama supporters should avoid such vulgarities. However, lee's comment one can argue the shirt is anti-Palin is a legitimate perception.

"The Madonna Syndrome." John Byrne is right. As Joni Mitchell said, "She's everything wrong with modern music." I'd add her debasing behavior has negatively influenced an entire generation of women who prefer to strive for a proscribed look and possessions rather than intellect.

Lee, I agree: your comments are absolutely wonderful.

While I'll let Lee speak for himself, I disagree with you in that I cannot and will not subscribe to the "two wrongs make a right" aspect of your logic.

We must solidly oppose the objectification of women, not merely because we found McCain's words wrong, but because it IS WRONG. We debase all women.

Do we reject the use of the "n word" simply because Michael Richards once used it, or do reject it because we marginalize, objectify, ridicule, debase and insult all blacks if we use the word to describe even one person with that vulgarity?

When we fall back on such foul and disgusting language to describe Governor Palin we only show that we are bankrupt of ideas and morals. We have merely sunk to the lowest level of schoolyard taunts and bullying.

When we use this language we show that, no matter what we think of Palin, we deserve much less respect than she does.

stella, I appreciate your stopping by and your comments. I agree with you 95% of the time, but I feel a stronger objection than "we can't use the word becasue we criticized McCain for using it" is necessary here.

Wrong is wrong. Palin is completely wrong for me, but to objectify her, to make her nothing but another "hole" is despicable.

I wrote about it today. Stop by if you want to.

When did McCain call his wife a cunt?

Stella by Starlight said...

Hi K. The whole story from 1992:

At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

There is no excuse for his comment. Speaking of comments, keep reading down the page. Some of the responders at Huffpo had some delightfully witty rejoinders.

This is a hard one Wizard. I agree with you, but I also find her loathsome, nauseating, and vile. I vehemently disagree with Palin's platform: she is clearly anti-woman, which makes her the worst kind of misogynist.

OK, I just expressed my ire without using the "c" word. Yes, that is much better. However, I still agree that lee's interpretation has merit.

Stella lets put these two shirts side by side.

Palin is a C**T

Obama is a N****R

if both are funny or both repulsive you have some balance.
