Holding the Whole World Hostage

While I'm on the subject of Freedom of Speech and how very precious it is........

Associated Press is reporting tonight:

Web sites remove video mocking Muhammad

COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Videos showing anti-immigrant party members mocking the Prophet Muhammad were pulled from Web sites Monday as two youths seen in the clips were reported in hiding and the Foreign Ministry warned Danes against travel to much of the Middle East.

Muslim clerics from Egypt and Indonesia condemned the video broadcast in Denmark last week showing members of the Danish People's Party youth wing with cartoons of a camel wearing the head of Muhammad and beer cans for humps. A second drawing placed a turbaned, bearded man next to a plus sign and a bomb, all equaling a mushroom cloud.

Citing critical media reports from many Muslim regions, the Foreign Ministry cautioned against travel to Gaza, the West Bank, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey.

"Against that background, we urge Danes to use caution as the matter could possibly lead to negative reactions. The atmosphere and reactions can vary dependent on time and place. Danes should be aware of the local mood," the ministry said.
Here is the problem. This is a genuine clash of cultures. Our western culture prizes free speech, and the use of satire, comedy, sarcasm and parody to make point.

The question is, "Are we going to simply abandon our our thousand year heritage when faced with a closed culture that prohibits free speech (along with most individual rights, especially for women)?"

The Associated Press continues:

The clip was removed from that broadcasters Web site Monday, as well as from a newspaper's site.

The purpose of the original publication was "not to insult Muslims or expose any members ... to any danger," said the paper's editor, David Trads.

A party official reportedly said that two youths seen in the video clips had gone into hiding.

"They are very shaken by the huge reaction the drawings have had," Kenneth Kristensen was quoted as saying on the Web site of the newspaper Politiken.

In Jordan on Monday, a powerful umbrella for some 200,000 professionals including engineers, doctors and journalists, said the video "reveals hatred toward the Prophet who came to the world with a message to enlighten the people."

"We call on all Muslim states to sever relations with Denmark or any other country which harms Islam," the associations said in a statement.

They said the video revealed the "nature of the struggle between Muslims and their enemies which are led by America."

Respect is a two way street. We need to respect and understand Islam in all it's forms and practices. We must respect all cultures.

But all people should also respect our culture, our heritage, our religions, our values and our laws.

Thousand year heritage? I suppose the US has existed 1000 years and women have been allowed to vote that long?

I suppose as early as 300 years ago people weren't burned at the stake for being witches or imperfect Christians or whatever wasn't PC in the West? The Spanish inquisition took place in the Middle East? Is it common for anti-Muslim bigots to rewrite history? There's no thousand year history. Unless you mean the history of subjugating other "races", butchering millions for resources and colonising other countries? Makes sense that you are proud of that history.

Explain the thousand year claim.

If you want to talk about free speech, I dare you to exercise it.

Mention *anything* about Israel and they'll come down on you like a tonne of bricks. Hell, just say you think covering Lebanon with cluster bombs was a bad idea, see what happens to you.

There's plenty of self censorship when it comes to the Jews. I can take any anti-Muslim diatribe, replace the word Muslim or Islam with Jew and Judaism, and watch what I'll cop from that. Here's a word; "hipocrisy". Know it well for it is well practised.

Then again if a Muslim stands up for what he believes in he's a terrorist, yet if a Westener does - by carpet bombing and invasion, much like Nazi's, that's ok? It's politically correct to butcher Muslims these days, how much of this did you hear before 9/11? The only time I heard of a suicide bomber before 9/11 was the Japanese kamikaze's from WW2.

Muslims are radicalising and so is the "West" - the more the West kills, the angrier people get and vice versa.

On one hand, we have widespread anti-Muslim bigotry - I've even heard Europeans muttering about a "Muslim Solution" in Europe (sounds rather similar to Hitler's "Jewish Question", a nice slide back into facism), and on the other people want the Muslims to accept Western values. I don't see it, are Western values having pedophiles and widespread in Government? Or being a glutton? I thought they were more Christian than that?

Take a look at how forces are arranged. You're mass bombing the Middle East every day, have been for years. You don't want Muslims of any type living in your countries, yet bomb their homes in their own countries to peices. You advocate the ethnic cleansing of Muslims and fascist invasion policies to carry this out, and whinge and threaten when they're annoyed. You don't even let them speak on your media channels and explain their grieviances (free speech my ass). The West is holding the Muslims hostage, not the other way round. 9/11 has been paid for many times over in blood and shattered lives yet still you persist with mass murder and conquest. You invaded Iraq under the pretense that it had nuclear weapons, yet run like cowards when North Korea actually detonates a weapon, favouring the virtual over the real (hence and agenda). You play it off as a blast of "TNT". Listen, I'm clapping. Well done.

So what do you expect these Muslims to do? You kill them at home, dehumanise them abroad, lump them together like some subrace of humanity ripe for the slaughter, force a VERY strange democracy on them? What is it you want?

I think I know. You want their complete extermination, and nothing more. Here come the concentration camps!

A very colorful rant, shedding important light on critically important issues and concerns of mine, but your concluding zingers are unfairly applied to Wizard.

the architect, Welcome to the Wizard, fkap and thank you for your long and impassioned comment.

I love passion.

While I can be taken to task for my completely arbitrary use of the time length of "1000 years" I must admit I'm mystified by the rest of your rant.

The use of the time frame comes from a general time of the "age of enlightenment" in western europe. But you are so very right, much evil has been done, even over the last 1000 years.

Perhaps I sould have said the last 90 years. Nope. Plently of evil in that time frame, too.

If you merely assumed that I am some comservative anti-Muslim bigot, you clearly are not a long time reader. In fact you didn't even read the last few entries, especially those where I roundly condemn the US Televsion and cable networks for their failure to employ and empower Muslims in both news and entertainment.

And if you think I somehow approve of the un-provoked, unnecessary, largely unilateral invasion and unplanned occupation of Iraq (UULUIUOI), then you really haven't been reading here.

But even if I were an anti-Muslim hypocrite, I simply fail to understand your comments.

As I've said over and often recently, TWO WRONGS DO NOT EVER MAKE A RIGHT.

If someone, at some time or some place, denied another person free speech (or any freedom), does that somehow justify terrorist enforced censorship?

If that is what you genuinely believe, then we do disagree.

I've visited your blog and find it imformative and interesting. You are always welcome to comment here.
